Uses of Casting Plaster

There are many uses for plaster of paris casting plaster, including life casting such as casting a precious baby's hand to capture it in still life forever, to using in theatrical and movie sets, architecture and sculptural arts. Casting Plaster is also often used as an intermediate stage in the production of plaster crafts such as large cast sculptures or in the creation of carved stone, particularly for building decoration. This adaptable material can be carved, painted or varnished to produce the perfect finished piece.

Craft Mill’s Chromatic Impression Moulding Alginate is used by professionals or modellers to make body mouldings large or small of any body part. It can also be used for modelling other things like ceiling covings or small sculptural items. Alginate can also be used to create a negative from an existing sculpture. Alginate is capable of producing fine detail down to creases in hands and finger nails.

CRAFTMILLS EXTRA INFORMATION ABOUT MOULDING ALGINATE

Often used in partnership with casting plaster, the alginate forms the mould into which the casting plaster is poured.
Our Chromatic alginate is completely safe and non-allergic as it is the same dental alginate used by dentists to make impressions of teeth. Our alginate is easy to use because it changes colour at each stage of the process giving you visible notice of how much time is left to do each stage.
A key feature of Craftmill's chromatic moulding alginate is that it has a relatively slow setting time so there is no need to rush when using. Average setting time is 2 minutes but this varies with room temperature. Full instructions are provided with this product.
